Political Storms Hit Florida Before Hurricane Milton Makes Landfall

Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday – less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene made landfall in the state. DeSantis and Harris are feuding over a disputed phone call related to hurricane response. If Hurricane Helene was any indication, Hurricane Milton is sure to stick around in the presidential campaign in the coming days and weeks. Politics are heating up even before Hurricane Milton makes landfall in Florida. Vice President Kamala Harris and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are feuding over a disputed phone call. NBC News reported that DeSantis is refusing to take Harris’ calls about storm response after Hurricane Helene and ahead of Hurricane Milton, a Category 4 storm that is expected to hit Florida’s Tampa Bay area late Wednesday. A source said that he was avoiding her calls because they “seemed political.” “Kamala was trying to reach out, and we didn’t answer,” the DeSantis aide told NBC News. When asked about the report, Harris responded – without naming DeSantis specifically – that the situation was a case of “political gamesmanship.”
